Optical similaritons in nonlinear waveguides.
We discover analytically an extensive family of optical similaritons, propagating inside graded-index nonlinear waveguide amplifiers. We show that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between these novel similaritons and standard solitons of the homogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We demonstrate that for certain inhomogeneity and gain profiles, the newly discovered similaritons turn...
متن کاملGeneration of dark solitons by interaction between similaritons in Raman fiber amplifiers
We present a new method to generate dark soliton trains by exploiting the interaction between two time-delayed optical similaritons with the same wavelength. The temporal overlap of two similariton pulses creates a sinusoidal beating which subsequently evolves into an ultrahigh repetition-rate train of dark solitons through the combined effects of normal dispersion, non-linearity and adiabatic ...

We obtain exact self-similar solutions to an inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation, describing propagation of optical pulses in fiber amplifiers with distributed dispersion and gain. We show that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between such self-similar waves and solitons of the standard, homogeneous, nonlinear Schrödinger equation if a certain compatibility condition is satisfi...
متن کاملInfluence of the pumping configuration on the generation of optical similaritons in optical fibers
The impact of forward and backward amplification schemes on the generation of optical similaritons has been numerically and experimentally investigated around 1550 nm using a fiber based Raman amplifier. The pumping configuration does not affect the similariton nature of the output pulse, but it significantly influences the characteristics of the pulse. Shorter and higher peak-power similariton...
متن کاملNonsoliton Pulse Evolution in Normally Dispersive Bers
For a typical NRZ pulse propagating in existing normally dispersive bers, we provide a uniform description of the optical transmission. There are three distinct regimes of the governing nonlinear Schrr odinger equation: the fully nonlinear dispersive regime (ND), which covers a small region of the pulse; and two limiting asymptotic regimes-nonlinear, weakly dispersive (ZD) (for the bulk of the ...
